What is it? 

ISO 27001 is a framework for managing information security. At its core is an information security management system (“ISMS”), the purpose of which is to keep data belonging to clients, employees, business partners and stakeholders safe – both in private industry and in the public sector. 

The ISMS focuses on risks the business faces regarding information security, resulting in measures spanning procedures, knowledge, and technology to mitigate the risks. The underpinning philosophy behind the ISMS is one of continual improvement, recognising the risks to the business never remain static, nor the nature of the activities of the business. Therefore, the risks and mitigations require regular review to assure their adequacy and effectiveness.
